Hurst's Children's Literature Site
This site is a goldmine for teachers! Carol
Otis Hurst is a nationally known storyteller, lecturer,
author and language arts consultant. She has had
a column in Teaching K-8 magazine since 1973. Teachers
can explore ways to integrate literature into the
classroom.
Database
of Award Winning Children's Literature
This site will allow the user to create
a tailored reading list of quality literature. You
can specify the age of the reader, the setting,
the historical period, the genre and so on. Voila!
You have a list of books that meet your criteria.

This is a great resource for teachers and students

This website's author is David K. Brown,

Cynthia Leitich Smith is a children’s
book author herself. Much more than lists of books,
this site offers unique features for teachers and
students. Sign up for the quarterly online newsletter.
Read author interviews. This site is very rich in
articles and resources for multicultural literature.
It also provides links to publisher, author and
illustrator guidelines.
Multnomah
County Library “Talk It Up!” Book Discussion
Guides
The Multnomah County Library in Oregon brings
together book discussion guides created by their
librarians, many publishers and other book discussion
websites. More than just a great selection of discussion
guides, many titles have links to related websites.
Everything from old classics like Roll of Thunder,
Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor to the latest
Newbery winner A Year Down Yonder by Richard
Peck, this site has it all when it comes to book
discussion information.

Provides links to websites rich with information
about the major writers of American Literature.
Beyond
the Core will help teachers broaden
their core curriculum to include other interesting
literature. Teaching ideas selected from NCTE publications

ALAN Review
The Assembly on Literature for Adolescents
- is published by NCTE, is available online, and
includes a search feature so you can research specific
titles or authors.
Kathy
Shrock's Guide for Educators
One of the premier websites for educators,
this is a categorized list of sites useful for enhancing
curriculum and professional growth. If you want
to focus on one website and learn it well - THIS
is the one to choose. Kathy has been a pioneer in
technology education in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
She is the author of many books on this topic and
her site has won numerous awards that are listed
on the site. She was inducted into the Internet
Librarian Hall of Fame for the Year 2001.
Reading
Online
(ROL) is a peer-reviewed journal of the International
Reading Association. Since May 1997
it has become a leading online source of information
for the worldwide literacy-education community.
The journal focuses on literacy practice and research
in K-12 classrooms (students aged 5 to 18). “Literacy”
is broadly defined to include traditional print
literacy, as well as visual literacy, critical literacy,
media literacy, digital literacy, and so on. A special
mission of the journal is to support professionals
as they integrate technology in the classroom, preparing
students for a future in which literacy’s meaning
will continue to evolve and expand. To accomplish
this, ROL invites readers to enter the journal,
to read its text, watch its video, view its graphics,
and listen to its audio -- and to shape its contents.
The
Gateway to Educational Materials
"GEM" is a Consortium effort to
provide educators with quick and easy access to
thousands of educational resources found on various
federal, state, university, non-profit, and commercial
Internet sites. GEM is sponsored by the U.S.
Department of Education and is a
special project of the ERIC
Clearinghouse on Information & Technology.
Teachers, parents, and administrators can search
or browse The Gateway and find thousands of high
quality educational materials, including lesson
plans, activities, and projects from over 200 GEM
Consortium member sites. Over 21,
